Postponement of the 2020 Portage Fair

With a history dating back almost to the origins of Canada as a nation, the Portage Industrial Exhibition Association has been celebrating the significance of our region’s agricultural heritage since 1872.  The Portage Fair has become an integral part of the summer for Portage la Prairie and District. As a result the July 2020 edition was scheduled to be the 148th consecutive year of fair activities in Portage la Prairie.

As the Covid-19 situation evolved, our organization has done its best to prepare for the worst while hoping for the best.  While we are pleased to see that the situation in Manitoba has improved to the point where a ‘Phased Approach to Restoring Services’ has been adopted by the Province of Manitoba – which we fully support – its release also brought with it the confirmation that it would neither be possible nor responsible to proceed with a gathering such as ours at this time.

For this reason, and for the safety and well-being of our community, attendees and sponsors, it is the decision of the directors of the Portage Industrial Exhibition Association to postpone the 2020 Portage Fair.

All of our facilities will also remain closed for the foreseeable future.  In addition, the Portage Ex Campground will remain closed until May 31, 2020.

We will endeavor to consider other activities on our grounds over the summer months, assuming all restrictions for public gatherings as set by the province can be met or exceeded.

Throughout the years, there has never been an interruption in the presentation of the annual agricultural fair, which stands today as Manitoba’s longest continuously running fair, something we can all take pride in.

Remember to mark your calendars for the 2021 Portage Fair from July 9th to 11th, 2021.

We look forward to seeing you next year!
